Sex Expert Explains Rise Of New Fetish ‘Vorarephilia’ And Why It’S Gaining Popularity

Online searches for this unusual fetish have reportedly been increasing.

Every year, it seems like a new sexual trend emerges, sparking curiosity and debate. And as we move into 2025, one particular fetish is starting to gain more attention.

From trends like gooning and cuckolding to the growing popularity of ‘honey packets’—which contain tadalafil and are marketed as a way to boost men’s performance (despite the FDA strongly advising against their use)—there’s always something new making waves.

To understand which sexual interests have been growing in popularity, a sex expert analyzed Google search data from the past five years. The study covered a staggering 160 million searches, revealing some surprising patterns.

Some previously popular trends have seen a decline. For example, ‘dogging’ (public sex in open spaces) has been losing traction, and ‘cottaging’ (hookups in public restrooms) has seen a dramatic 70 percent drop in searches.

But while some interests fade, others are gaining attention. One of the more unexpected ones is ‘vore,’ a term short for vorarephilia. According to leading sex and relationship expert Rachel Thompson, online searches for vore have increased by 26 percent.

If you’re unfamiliar with vorarephilia, the National Library of Medicine defines it as “an infrequently presenting paraphilia, characterized by the erotic desire to consume or be consumed by another person or creature”.

Since cannibalism is illegal in most parts of the world, this particular fetish remains purely a fantasy for those who experience it.

Hope Flynn, head of content at the sexual wellness brand IPlaySafe, spoke to Mail Online about this growing trend, stating: “It’s important to know that vore is only fantasy and doesn’t involve real harm or eating.”

“There’s a distinction between those who like to consume (predators) and those who like to be consumed (prey).”

Flynn elaborated further, explaining: “People with vore fantasies might express themselves through stories, artworks, role-playing, or online discussions and forums like Reddit.”

As for why interest in vore has increased, she suggests that pop culture could be playing a role. She pointed to the success of true crime-inspired series like Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and House of Hammer as possible influences.

Discussing these shows, Flynn stated: “They both condone literal cannibalistic love or elements of it,”

However, vore isn’t the only surprising fetish gaining traction. Some people also have strong fantasies involving fictional characters.

Pornhub’s annual year-in-review report revealed the most searched-for film and TV characters on the platform, highlighting how mainstream entertainment influences adult interests.

According to the data, DC Comics’ Harley Quinn topped the list. Other highly searched characters included those from Star WarsGame of ThronesAvatar, and Harry Potter, rounding out the top five.
