This enormous complex in Hangzhou’s central business district towers 675 feet high, spreading out over 260,000 square meters of space, making it one of the biggest in the area.

The amenities at Regent International include everything from a food court to salons, swimming pools, internet cafés, and supermarkets. It’s essentially a city within a building.
However, it doesn’t offer fresh air unless you open a window, so you might still want to go outside occasionally to enjoy nature or take a walk.
But aside from that, the building management has thought of almost everything you could want.
Many Chinese-language publications have covered the population living in the building.
In 2023, an article from Hangzhou Network Media, translated using Google Translate, stated:
“During the peak period of the population moving into the shared housing, Regent International had more than 30,000 residents.”
However, a 2021 report mentioned in the article found that only 10,000 residents were officially recorded as living there at that time.
The building has even gone viral on social media, with TikTok videos showing off the impressive facilities it offers.
While the amenities are impressive, it’s the massive size of the building that first catches the attention of many people online.

Originally, when the building was designed by Alicia Loo, who also designed the world’s second seven-star hotel, the Singapore Sands Hotel, it was meant to be a six-star hotel.
However, it has since become a thriving residence for thousands of people and apartments.
The luxurious apartments are especially popular with students, recent graduates, and young professionals.
If you’re curious about the cost of living here, the smaller units without windows (yes, that’s right, no windows) typically rent for about 1,500 RMB per month, which is roughly $210, according to local news sources.
Larger apartments with balconies are listed for about 4,000 RMB per month, or around $570.
