High School Alum Recalls Taylor Swift Facing ‘Hatred’ From Classmates

It’s hard to imagine, but Taylor Swift might not have always been everyone’s favorite person back in high school. Seems like her ability to Shake it Off started young!

A TikToker who says she attended the same school as Taylor Swift has claimed there was some serious Bad Blood between the singer and a few of her classmates.

It appears Taylor’s high school experience wasn’t quite the fairy tale of a Love Story. According to this social media user, there were students who outright ‘hated’ her during those years.

Jessica McLane shared her story on TikTok, revealing that she grew up in the same town and attended the same school as Taylor Swift. She went on to describe what the global superstar was supposedly like as a teenager.

During her time at Hendersonville High School in Tennessee, where Swift was known as the ‘Blank Space’ singer, McLane admitted in what she called ‘a blanket apology’ that she doesn’t know much about the international icon today.

She explained: “I was a church kid, I didn’t really listen to Taylor Swift, I kinda just got into Taylor Swift so give me some grace.”

“So in 2006, I’m a freshman in high school, Taylor is, I think, a junior. ‘Teardrops On My Guitar’ had just come out I think over the summer.”

“Obviously she got really big and that’s the year that she left school, she was homeschooled in 2006.”

McLane continued to recount that Swift was often ‘hated’ by her peers at school, especially when she started to gain significant success early on.

She added: “Keep in mind, these are her peers, you know, this isn’t like just random people on the internet.”

“She’s literally like what 16, 17, leaving high school to pursue a career that people are telling her that she could never have.”

“Also, the guys she was writing these songs about, they were still in school. And now they have a hit song about them, talking about what a s****y boyfriend they are, you know?”

McLane touched on the swirling rumors surrounding the beginning of Swift’s career. However, despite having gone to school with her, the TikToker confessed she doesn’t know much firsthand about those early days.

One thing McLane did observe was that ‘there weren’t a lot of people in high school who had nice things to say about her.’ It seems Taylor wasn’t exactly everyone’s favorite back then.

However, Swift clearly got the last laugh. In 2009, she made a bold move by inviting her former classmates to the CMA Awards.

“She invited us to the CMAs to say ‘F**k you’. And we deserved it,” McLane shared.

“So Taylor, touché, that was a good one.”

Unsurprisingly, Taylor’s loyal fan base, the Swifties, flooded the comments section of McLane’s TikTok video to share their opinions and reactions.

One fan commented: “Sagittarius energy. We forgive but WE NEVER FORGET.”

“That’s incredible respect for Taylor Swift,” another person chimed in.

And yet another commenter added: “Taylor has the last laugh!”
