Pet Dog Fatally Shoots Owner On Hunting Trip

A pet dog fatally shot its owner during a hunting trip in Turkey.

The shocking incident occurred in Samsun Province on the Kizlan Plateau, where Ozgur Gevrekoglu, 32, was enjoying a hunting trip with his friends.

The outing went smoothly, but tragedy struck as Gevrekoglu prepared to head home.

Reports indicate that he was placing his dog into the trunk of his vehicle when the animal’s paw accidentally pressed the trigger of a loaded shotgun.

The firearm discharged at close range, fatally striking the hunter in the stomach.

Despite immediate efforts to rush him to Alaçam State Hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Authorities launched an investigation to determine the precise circumstances of the shooting, the New York Post reports.

However, some Turkish media outlets have speculated about possible foul play, suggesting that the claim of the dog causing the accident may be a cover-up.

As of now, no evidence has surfaced to support these theories.

Gevrekoglu, a devoted dog owner, had recently become a father just days before his untimely passing.

His social media profiles featured numerous images of him posing with hunting dogs and showcasing his love for the outdoors.

One of his last posts showed him proudly displaying game birds alongside a faithful canine companion.

This incident is part of a pattern of freak accidents involving firearms and pets, per MailOnline.

Similar cases have been reported worldwide, including a New Mexico man who was shot in the back by his dog during a jackrabbit hunting expedition and a Tennessee man who suffered a gunshot wound when his dog jumped onto his bed and accidentally triggered a firearm.

Despite the rarity of such incidents, they serve as a stark reminder of the importance of firearm safety, especially in environments where animals are present.

Experts emphasize the need for hunters and gun owners to ensure that weapons are always secured with the safety engaged when not in use.

Gevrekoglu’s tragic death has left his family and community in mourning, with friends remembering him as a passionate outdoorsman and a devoted new father.
